Even just a smile……

How we show up can impact those around us. What can you do to show up intentionally in your day. Even just wearing a smile might be the boost someone else needs to make their day a bit brighter.

Never underestimate your words, behaviour, and actions on others. They might just mean more than you know. I’m a mentor and coach and I write some self-improvement social media posts for my audience. My target market is women over 35 who are feeling a bit lost or have a niggle that there is more to life and they aren’t quite fulfilling their potential.

So, Imagine my surprise when a 6 foot odd strapping bloke approached me in a local bar and said ‘I just want to let you know I read your posts and they mean a lot to me and some have really helped’. He acknowledged that the posts probably weren’t written with him in mind and yet they had supported him and he’d felt encouraged by them. Encouraged enough to let me know that too. His words had a huge positive impact on me too and really gave me a post-holiday boost. Even if my posts resonate with just one person, even if they aren’t even going to be an intended future client, that’s still good enough for me. I’m making a difference and adding value to another person’s life - there is no greater feeling than that.

It got me thinking about how much impact we can have on others without possibly ever really knowing. Let’s face it, a lot of people aren’t going to tell you when you’ve made a positive impact on their life and yet you can (and probably do) every single day. The importance of how we speak, the language we use, even the smiles we give as we go about our business – lifting someone else, lifts us too!!

Give it a try today – a kind word, a shared thought, a nod…. anything works. Share something positive with someone else and see how it makes you feel too. Oh, and as an additional boost try telling someone about something you’ve appreciated that they have done to make you feel good or help you out. Gratitude is an underrated mood lifter.
