Who are you showing up as?

We wear numerous hats in life; daughters, fathers, employees, business owners, church goers, party animals…. It’s likely through your life you’ve carried lots of labels. Many of you will have been through the education, health, legal, financial, employment services and systems our society works to. Most of you will have been raised by mothers, grandparents, kinship folk, carers. How has it shaped you? It’s likely your own experience of coming into the world and growing up is unique to you. Even siblings with the same upbringing have different experiences of what their parents did to raise them.
There are so many systems, boundaries, communities, and individuals that will have had an impact on who you are today. There’s no right or wrong way to be. You are you. You’ll make mistakes, you’ll have incredible wins. There will be days you want to sing from the rooftops and days you want to stay in bed. Life ebbs and flows, it’s up and it’s down and sometimes it can feel like a roundabout with no way off. We can only shape our futures with so much input from external forces. We can only make so many decisions based on our learning and academia. We can only make so many excuses for the way we are in life based on our upbringing (and sadly sometimes the lack thereof).
The next chapter is down to you though and you alone. Do you know who you are? Do you feel aligned with that inner you? Are you living authentically and unapologetically as YOU. If the story you are telling yourself starts with it being somebody else’s fault for your circumstances, how can you take back your personal power? How do you step into responsibility and action creating a future you want to live in?! This is big stuff for a small column and yet I hear so many coaching clients trying to please somebody else, blaming the past for their now and not taking the positive action towards making change. Don’t let that be you.
Give yourself permission to do things differently - one positive step at a time. You can start with something as small as practising gratitude. Right here, right now. What are 3 things you are grateful for? Try something new that supports the future you and step wholeheartedly into showing up as that – no excuses!
Let me know how you get on. I’ll be here believing in you, till you’re ready to do the same.
